18th Century Belgium Style Bespoke Kitchen
London

For this highly individual kitchen project, located on the lower ground floor of an important Victorian villa, we worked exceptionally closely with our client to realise her vision for a space inspired by 18th-century Belgian interiors. The brief called for a kitchen that felt deeply authentic to the period while offering the practicality required for modern living—an approach that demanded meticulous detailing and a carefully orchestrated palette of materials.

Every element of the kitchen was tailored to capture the patina, charm and gentle formality associated with Belgian 18th-century furniture. Turned legs, bespoke furniture proportions and an aged paint finish were all developed through close collaboration, ensuring the room felt naturally embedded within the architecture of the Victorian villa. An ochre-coloured marble worktop adds warmth and richness, while a driftwood desk introduces texture and softness.

One of the project’s most striking features is the Louis XIV canopy, sourced specifically for this home. It provides both decorative presence and functional extraction, framing the La Cornue cooker with an effortless sense of elegance. Belgian handles, scalloped skirting and handcrafted joinery further reinforce the period character, adding layers of refinement.

A particularly unique challenge was transforming a damp, vaulted space beneath the driveway into a circular crockery cupboard. Once fully tanked and lined, it became a beautifully functional and atmospheric storage area—an unexpected feature that feels entirely at home within the scheme.

Behind the main kitchen, an anti-kitchen was created in the same style and detailing, offering a more functional workspace with hidden fridge freezers, additional storage and a dumbwaiter connecting the kitchen to the dining room above. This secondary space allows the main kitchen to retain its calm, curated aesthetic while supporting the practicalities of daily life.

This project is a celebration of craftsmanship, individuality and historical sensitivity—a bespoke kitchen that marries functionality with true period-inspired artistry.
