Spring Kitchen

Spring Kitchen

Spring Kitchen

This stunning kitchen project really brings alive the sense of spring, summer and expanding your living space to the outdoors.   A beautiful, large country home surrounded by picturesque, uninterrupted views of the Surrey Hills and private woodland.  The kitchen has been extended by a large oak beam orangery, providing natural light and access directly to the pool side and cosy seating areas.  Figura design individually for each client and in this case has encapsulated the organic surroundings in the materials and colours so that the living environment embraces each new season.

Swimming costumes on the AGA, strawberries and cream, Wimbledon, long, relaxed, informal lunches with friends and family, gin cocktails and of course Pimms….all the ingredients to make the most of the fabulous summer weather and a living space that works for all the family.

Details include a storage wall, including the fridge/freezer and an island with storage and seating for two.  There is a lovely use of curves not only in the work surface, but the shelving and pantry too which enables the kitchen to flow.

The contrasting use of wood and stone separates the different work zones, but the way it also brings them together to harmonise the space is most remarkable.

There is a subtle use of colour and natural materials to reflect the location and the outdoors, providing a sense of calm and wellbeing. An absolutely delightful project and a spectacular living space for everyone, including Bella the dog!

Country Family Home

Country Family Home

Country Family Home

This beautiful Victorian Country House is surrounded by exemplary gardens designed in 1915 by the well-known garden designer, Gertrude Jekyll.  The kitchen is flooded by natural light and benefits from lovely high ceilings.

The family moved back to the UK to create a family home and with so many inspiring cooks in the brood getting the design right and incorporating a range of requirements was key.

There is a wonderful large bi-fold larder which takes care of all the ingredients and store cupboard items.  Bertie the Labrador who is star of the show… certainly enjoys checking out what is in the pantry!

The detail in the cabinetry shows something different for a traditional style inlay front.  Recycling is made easy with 3 handy bins located in the island and the AGA canopy speaks for itself.  There is lovely detail too in the glasses cupboard, plenty of storage for stemmed wine glasses and champagne flutes.

As with a lot of our kitchen designs, this is a family living space too, so bridging the space between the kitchen and seating area was important to get right.

Bespoke Period Kitchen

Bespoke Period Kitchen

A home that appeals to all the senses

Inspired by this client's passion for sights, smells and love of 18th Century Belgian interiors, this incredible London home has astonishing attention to detail, incredible flair and an overwhelming commitment to long-held design concept.

The client wanted to create something completely different, but with a really homely feel.  She was influenced by many trips to Belgium, but the house also has influences from France and touches of Italy, it is very classical.   The client told us that a house has to appeal to all the senses. Lighting, sounds and smells are also critical”.  A lot of candle light and chandeliers are used to create this sensual atmosphere.

In the creation of this exceptional living space we worked with the client to a very specific design brief. There is something magical, theatrical, mysterious and incredibly opulent about entering this Victorian London home and being transported to an 18th Century masterpiece.

We were really excited to work closely with the client to design two separate kitchens with different purposes.  The front main kitchen is for entertaining friends and family, it presents a warm and welcoming atmosphere which is perfect for relaxing in the evening with wine, cheese and delicious scented candles.

The main kitchen design included a bespoke La Cornue Château range cooker, sourcing a magnificent Louis XIV mantel from France, creating a beautiful writing desk with aged oak surface, a curved full high cupboard with TV storage and a fabulous island centrepiece with beautiful turned pilaster legs, open cutlery storage and marble surface.

The rear kitchen is the work zone with dishwasher, bi-fold pantry and full height fridge and freezer.

Old Rectory

Old Rectory

Old Rectory transformed for modern family living

Figura were delighted to be involved in creating a fabulous family kitchen for this client who had moved from London to a remarkable Old Rectory in a country village.  It was a privilege to be part of this project to create a forever home.

The design includes enough seating at the island for all the children, a workstation, pantry, boot room and utility.  A critical look at the spatial planning to meet the needs of this family meant knocking through to the adjoining dining room, providing direct access to the garden and installing new period sash windows.

The completed look is contemporary and classic and presents a fabulous new space for entertaining and everyday living.

In washed tulip wood, the feel of the room is serene and calm.  The curved shoe carousel is practical yet stunning to look at.  Everything has been considered, from the wonderful views whilst reading in bed to the sunken jewellery box in the bedroom island.

Small Country Estate

Small Country Estate

Having undergone a comprehensive programme of restoration and improvement, this beautiful home stands as a stunning example of how classic and modern living can be combined to offer the best of both worlds.

Surrounded by its own land the main house enjoys wonderful views over the immediate gardens, which are a major feature in themselves, and its fields beyond.

Internally the house is presented in a classic style with the emphasis on light, spacious rooms. Behind the period facade lies this modern, contemporary Figura kitchen. The kitchen is proudly placed in a beautiful orangery that offers an exceptionally light and spacious living space.

The stunning work surface is more interesting every time you look at it and it cleverly brings together the subtle colour of the AGA, oak cabinetry and painted furniture.

The combined media unit and dresser bridges the kitchen, dining and seating areas to ensure all the areas flow seamlessly.

Not only is this kitchen simply stunning, it includes clever storage and Figura's trademark quality and engineering when it comes to fixtures. fittings and functionality

A real privilege to be involved in this project.

Dressing Room

Dressing Room

Dressing Room

This country home enjoys enviable location nestled in rolling Surrey countryside. It is a fascinating 16th century home with a plethora of original features including exposed beams accompanied by wooden and quarry tile flooring. The dressing room enjoys a stunning outlook down the garden to the lake at the foot of the grounds.

The dressing room is located next to the master bedroom and provides access to the en-suite bathroom. It has been beautifully designed in unique oak and offers a spacious dressing area with ample storage and has also become a snug for bedtime stories. A space that the whole family can enjoy!

Contemporary Style Kitchen

Contemporary Style Kitchen

Beautiful Surrey Country Home

The living space, extended by a green oak orangery, was large enough to incorporate a generous kitchen, a twelve seater dining area and a perfectly named ‘snug’. Leading off the living space we designed a utility and boot room including a bespoke ‘dog house’ for the owners Labradors, one of whom produced a litter of the most beautiful black puppies soon after….hard to leave without one tucked in our pocket!

The central kitchen island as seen overleaf is one of my all-time favourite designs. The large sweeping curved lines, with stunning granite surface and oak inlay, creates a real showstopper and an interesting space that is warm, inviting and uplifting.

The design and detailing in this project are key to the aesthetic of the room and the house. This design is all about effective use of space.  Away from the central island and storage wall, the more functional elements of the kitchen including an Aga are housed.  Although beauty is essential in design, functionality is as important. When I design, I do so to enhance my clients’ lives, aesthetically and practically, and of course to add value to their homes.

Beautiful Kitchen

Beautiful Kitchen

A simple but stunning kitchen in Palladian style house.

Last year we were lucky enough to be asked to design an individual and stunning kitchen for clients living in a beautifully located Palladian style house.

The island is the main feature and the design makes the most of the natural light and the beautiful views over parkland.  Clever storage and bespoke cabinetry have really created something quite unique.

First and foremost the client wanted to create an open and light living spaces in all the rooms in this outstanding house.  The kitchen was no exception, so instead of traditional wall units and work surfaces, a very large free standing island was designed as stunning centre-piece, which skilfully incorporated a large amount of storage, including dishwasher and sink.  Further to this and in-line with the entirely bespoke character of the house we designed a beautiful dresser with integrated Quooker hot water tap and everything you need to make your morning coffee!

Standing opposite is a beautiful open display unit providing plenty of display space for glassware, books and a media unit.

The large Georgian windows are unobstructed, bringing in plenty of light to the room and providing exceptional views over the park land and gardens.

Bedroom Furniture and Vaulted Ceiling

Bedroom Furniture and Vaulted Ceiling

Bedroom Furniture and Vaulted Ceiling - Sussex

The aim with this bespoke bedroom design in Sussex, was to bring volume and light to a part of the house with low ceilings and small interconnecting rooms. We realised very early on that it would be possible to lift the roof space and design an unusual and beautiful vaulted feature with large oak trusses and beams creating a feeling of spaciousness, warmth and grandeur.

Opening up the bedroom and dressing room, which were originally two separate bedrooms, developed the feeling of luxury and space. The bedroom furniture and bathroom furniture is crafted in washed tulip wood which has a silvery blond quality in daylight and further enhances the light and airy feel.

The entrance to the en-suite designer bathroom is hidden within the line of beautiful cabinet-made bedroom wardrobes.  You don’t realise it is there until you open one of the doors!

Using some stone in a bedroom design may seem unusual but not only is it practical here, it provides a stunning contrast with the wood and the other finishes in the bedroom.

Bespoke Luxury Family Kitchen, Surrey

Bespoke Luxury Family Kitchen, Surrey

This beautiful house has outstanding views from nearly every room. The old kitchen was redesigned to create a large, light family kitchen that flows perfectly in to a new orangery, overlooking the garden at one end, with a large walk in larder at the other.

The kitchen island in particular is a stand-out feature. Designed to be 3.5 metres long, with an unusual curved step between the surfaces it defines the space. It is also practical, incorporating storage areas and establishing a wonderful focus for gathering people. The brief was to create a kitchen that felt tactile and warm so lots of beautiful curves were introduced in wood and stone creating a feature of the giant chopping block. The larder was designed so that whoever is cooking can open the door and reach everything from one spot and it keeps the rest of the kitchen uncluttered and tranquil.  The design also incorporated a boot room.

Magnificent Larder, Surrey Village

This kitchen was designed to offer solid English oak furniture, generously thick honed Ubatuba granite kitchen worktops and stunning Carrara marble shelves in the storage wall and the magnificent larder to give an understated luxury and quality to a beautiful and important Surrey village house.

The kitchen island offers an additional work surface for food preparation, an informal space to sit as well as creating a dedicated cooking zone. This kitchen island also includes a second oven which is hidden from view and a glass fronted fridge forming a focal point.

Traditional Kitchen and Larder

The bespoke design for this space focuses on optimising the kitchen's outstanding original architecture and features. Rather than designing around oak beams and original brickwork, we accentuated these features to bring warmth to the room. The client had downsized from a substantial country house to this charming mill house and wanted to create a very beautiful central kitchen which could still be able to bring the family together.

A curved banquette with storage and heating underneath was designed in to a corner giving additional colour and warmth and a storage wall larder provides a useful space for kitchen ‘clutter’ inside a beautiful piece of cabinet made oak furniture.

This interiors project was designed for a client who was downsizing from a large country home to a Georgian apartment in London.

All the rooms flow seamlessly, bringing light and space to the whole apartment. A mixture of contemporary and antique combined with clever and thoughtful design has created a beautiful home which caters for all the client’s needs. Design features and colour schemes run throughout the whole living space creating the perfect setting for the clients own furnishings;  a home to love living in.

The fitted bedroom wardrobes and cupboards in beautiful washed ash provide an abundance of clever storage. The intricate Georgian coving and architecture has been reinstated along with the fan lights above the interior doors, allowing light to flood the rooms and adding grandeur to the high ceilings. The modern fireplace has been designed as a focal point, and sits perfectly alongside the old and new.

This bespoke project is beautifully crafted and thoughtfully designed with exceptional attention to detail.

Contemporary Kitchen Design, Rural Sussex

The brief for this renowned architect and his wife was to create a beautiful, understated design for a large kitchen and dining space with wonderful proportions. The garden and land surrounding this house bring foxes with their cubs and deer right up to the kitchen windows. Light pours in from double doors on both sides and the space now is big enough to seat twelve, yet it still feels cosy enough when just occupied by two.

The compact cooking space is shielded by a generous kitchen island which can seat people on the far side. This area provides a place from where everything from drinks, elegant canapés or a hearty country breakfast can be enjoyed. Everything is within reach and friends can feel involved but don’t encroach on the preparation area.

Other design features are details such as the walnut trim around the cooker hood and the splashback behind the Aga but the best part of the design is the way it flows and brings the gardens and views right into the kitchen in a seamless way. Linking the inside to outside is further enhanced by a sophisticated, yet natural colour palette, where cooking apple green combines with the gentle pewter handles to create a ‘wow’ factor but without shouting.

Hand-Painted Luxury Kitchen with Bespoke Kitchen Island

Hand-Painted Luxury Kitchen with Bespoke Kitchen Island

In the design of this bespoke kitchen living space, which forms the heart and hub of this family home, we understood the need to craft beautiful furniture, able to withstand the rigours of a busy, sociable family - which also had to be practical, ergonomic and in sympathy with the character of this Edwardian home in Surrey.

At the centre is a cleverly designed multi-functional kitchen island.  Besides providing a central spot for informal dining for family and friends, it also becomes a workstation for a laptop, a cooking and preparation surface and somewhere to relax with a coffee or a glass of wine…close to, but out of the way of the busy chef.

The eye is naturally drawn to the numerous interesting and cleverly designed areas that have been brought to life.  Elegant kitchen furniture including tall, kitchen cupboards and soft-closing drawers crafted into the steps and difficult spaces provide clever storage solutions.  Throughout, beautiful pieces of furniture and cabinetry have been designed and crafted with the exact and diverse demands of the family in mind.

A luxury farmhouse kitchen in Hampshire for an accomplished chef that flows beautifully in to the other rooms in this 17th Century home. The beautifully crafted circular kitchen island cleverly hides storage for knives and the vegetable bin under a large chopping board; a sunken wine cellar provides a wonderful and interesting feature; and a practical laundry chute in the adjoining room makes this space individual and incredibly functional.

It is unusual to recommend an island in a bedroom and even more so when incorporating a bed. This bedroom island design in London really makes the most of the room and the views outside. A beautiful long chest of drawers, which is part of the bedhead, makes more sense of the room when you walk in, drawing the eye to the view, rather than the bed. The washed tulip wood works beautifully with the light that floods in from the large windows and with the colours of the interior decoration and furnishings.

A contemporary, sleek, uncluttered space was the aim with this design in London. The kitchen is part of an overall open plan ground floor which needs to flow seamlessly from room to room, zone to zone and connect with the gardens surrounding it.

The family style is warm but minimalist, the kitchen builds on the greys used elsewhere in the house and provides ample storage to help keep the surfaces clear. The kitchen feels tranquil and organised despite it being central to a busy family.
