Happy New January!

The beginning of the new year and the time to make your new year resolutions.

Let's see what there is for us to look forward to as we head into 2017.

We Love November!

According to data from Twitter, the Spanish are more likely to tweet “Te amo” (I love you) in November than in any other month, so we thought it would be fun to explore what there is to love about November...

October - Featuring Chelsea Market, Pumpkins and a Dressing Room Snug

The month of October signifies the onset of Autumn bringing with it the rich hue of colours, the cooler temperatures and darker evenings. Thinking about Autumnal colours and design, here are a few of the things that have inspired us this month, with a couple of events and exhibitions that are worth taking a look.

Hello September

September is known as the month for harvest festivals, the beginning of the school calendar and according the Romans it was represented by the God of fire.

For the forthcoming month we have searched out the latest, seasonal interior trends, craftsmanship, exhibitions and luxury, individual lifestyle to inspire you for the weeks ahead.

Focus on Scandinavian Design

With our Swedish heritage, a return to Sweden last week for a family holiday reignited our passion for the simplicity of Scandinavian design. When considering Swedish design, whether it be textiles, furniture, household objects or glassware – you’ll find the same practical, aesthetic, natural and increasingly sustainable approach to design. In Sweden, design is synonymous with ‘lifestyle’.

Froyle Tiles

Froyle Tiles is a specialist tile shop based in the picturesque village of Hambledon, Surrey. Located just a couple of miles away from our Figura Showroom in Chiddingfold, we often suggest that clients pay them a visit to find something very special and unique for their kitchen or bathroom project.

Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden

Heralded as the first of it's kind in the UK, The Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden in Ockley, Surrey has been exhibiting sculpture in a truly unique and magical environment for over 30 years. Broadleaved plants and mature trees support, frame and enhance a changing collection of contemporary sculpture in the stunning garden that owner/creator Hannah Peschar and her husband - the award-winning landscape designer Anthony Paul created over 30 years ago.

Cow Spotting

The Worlds largest art event is current unfolding in Surrey. Dozens of brightly-coloured cows are starting to decorate the hills, farms, towns, schools and popular landmarks across the county, building up to the main exhibition in July and August.  The aim is to share the beauty of the Surrey Hills and provide a massive boost to local businesses and community projects.

The Psychology of Orange

The colour orange radiates warmth and happiness, combining the physical energy and stimulation of red with the cheerfulness of yellow.   The fact is, we could all do with a splash of orange in our lives!

Introducing: The Little Shed

Figura recently teamed up with Linda and Laurie at The Little Shed in Godalming.  We were looking for interesting, stylish and well-crafted homewares to complement Figura's bespoke furniture designs. The Little Shed offered us exceptional service and a fabulous range of home accessories....a joy!

Everything is so Green!

Outside everything is so lush and green at the moment.  I love driving around the Surrey countryside, the hedgerows, parks, woods and even verges are alive with vibrant, lush greens of all shades and texture.

With green in mind and currently all around us, we thought we would take this opportunity share with you a selection of our favourite 'green' inspired accessories for the home and also some of our favourite green Figura kitchen designs.

Meet the Maker: Jo Downs

Jo Downs has been designing for over 20 years and has become the UKs most recognised fused glass artists. Her coastally inspired work is synonymous with the county of Cornwall where she lives and works.  With the recent opening of her new gallery in the village of Ripley, Surrey, she is beginning to bring the inspirational beauty of Cornwall to a national audience.

Germinating ideas!

There is something incredibly rewarding about watching things grow.  The whole process starts with 'will it...won't it' germinate.  For those lucky enough to,  the new beginnings start by poking their head through the compost, unfurling and stretching into the wide open space, breathing in the fresh air.  The germination of seeds is an excellent metaphor for the principles of Figura design.

Artists Studios

Here at Figura we are very lucky that clients understand that we are design company first and foremost. There is always quite a buzz surrounding the first design presentations we hold with clients. A definite sense of anticipation fills the air and a feeling of ‘prepare to be excited’!

On the hunt for props....

Out searching for props today for some upcoming photoshoots of recent projects.

The Packhouse is a 400-year-old building near Farnham, Surrey, not far from our showroom. It is a treasure trove of beautiful and unusual things, old and new, and bustling with people on a lovely spring day.

A Boost of Colour

Based in Chiddingfold, Surrey we are really lucky to have a number of National Trust properties and gardens right on our doorstep.  One of the most magnificent at this time of year is Winkworth Arboretum, an unfinished masterpiece.

Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village

This week I was reminded of  how special Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village is and how long it is since I visited. Having spent many formative years in Compton, riding my horses past Watts Gallery most days, I am thrilled to now start becoming acquainted with this unique place.

Meet the Maker: Janet Gough

Delighted to discover the work of local artist Janet Gough last week whilst attending a photoshoot. Her exquisite bird paintings simply sing to you and the website of her work has become a bit of a guilty pleasure at Figura HQ!

300th Anniversary of Lancelot 'Capability' Brown

2016 marks the 300th anniversary of the birth of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, a designer who worked on a truly grand scale on some of the most iconic landscape gardens in Britain today.  At Figura, we are lucky enough to have Petworth House and Park right on our doorstep, with other fine examples of Capability Brown landscapes and gardens not far away.
