Introducing: The Upholstery and Furniture Studio, Chiddingfold

Introducing: The Upholstery and Furniture Studio, Chiddingfold

We were delighted recently to discover another business in Chiddingfold focusing on traditional craftsmanship and quality.  Chiddingfold is a quintessential, rural village, so it was a lovely surprise to find a kindred spirit nestled in this beautiful backwater....a new haven for design and craftsmanship!

The Upholstery and Furniture Studio is small upholstery business.  They have been working from their studio in Chiddingfold for the last four years, but have 38 years experience in upholstery and bespoke furniture design.

They carry a large selection of luxury fabrics from UK based and local companies such as Sanderson, LinwoodWarwick and Kate Forman just to name a few and also some wonderful leather hides.

Michelle and her colleague Mike are traditionally trained upholsterers and can work on anything from valuable antiques to modern sofas.  They also make bespoke furniture, working with clients to design something that meets their requirements, both in terms of style and practicality, from kitchen bench seats, special size sofas and bedroom headboards.

Kate Forman: Jag. A real showstopper! This punchy Ikat lifts a room immediately with its delicious colour combination and striking design.

Michelle and Mike joined up in 2012, putting their years of experience together to offer the best you can find in the world of upholstery. Working from their studio in Chiddingfold, they re-upholster old furniture, repairing or restoring when necessary.  They can also build new furniture to a specification.

Sanderson: Peas and Pods. This printed fabric is a still life study of pomegranates and greenery abstracted from nature. Washes of colour create layers of texture, adding depth to this fantastical trail with its bold and blocky print mark.

Michelle has a BA (Hons) in antique furniture conservation and restoration. In 2010 she won the prestigious Derek Austin award from The Worshipful Company of Upholders for her work on restoring an 18th century sedan chair. She also has experience in interior design and has an eye for using modern fabrics to bring classic furniture into the 21st century.
