Delighted to discover the work of local artist Janet Gough last week whilst attending a photoshoot. Her exquisite bird paintings simply sing to you and the website of her work has become a bit of a guilty pleasure at Figura HQ!
The client's living space had a wide vista looking out across a beautiful natural garden and lake. There was a real feeling that the wonderful expanse of nature was reflected in this bright and cheerful painting on the wall of the green oak orangery.
Throughout Janet's daily walk in the woods she loves the profusion of the untamed. The tangled pattern of plants, flowers, trees. Nature's haphazard growth, yet each individual leaf perfectly designed to play its part in the fragile balance and harmony of the whole
The strong design element of Janet's work is often subconsciously influenced by the years she previously worked as a successful Textile Designer. Her hand-knitted garments became internationally collectable and sold through specialist galleries in New York, San Francisco and Chicargo and also the New Ashgate Gallery in Farnham, right on Figura's doorstep.
Janet paints large abstract sheets of energised pure colour. She then cuts out birds, fish, fruit and leaves that she sees in the random brush strokes. She also uses string, silver leaf, beads and sweet wrappers to create the feel the work asks for.
Janet will be exhibiting her work locally over the summer. Well worth a look if you are able to pop along.
