Surrey Artists' Open Studios 2016

Surrey Artists' Open Studios 2016

Surrey Artists Open Studios is an annual visual arts opportunity for the public to visit studios, meet artists & makers, view demonstrations, buy artwork, view a taster exhibition and take part in creative workshops. Studio locations are throughout Surrey and around its borders.

The summer Open Studios offer the public access to artists and makers and gives a valuable insight into how artwork is produced. For 16 days the summer event is all about visiting studios, meeting artists and makers, seeing them at work, browsing completed works and seeing work in progress, and even trying your hand at making something for yourself.

Based in Chiddingfold, we are lucky enough to have a wide variety of artists right on our doorstep.  Here are a few that would be worth a look if you are in the area.

Nicky Chubb - Painter - Hindhead

Nicky is particularly inspired by the trees, big skies and hardy heathland flowers of the local countryside and tries to capture a sense of air and movement as she paints.

Daniel Craig - Painter - Godalming

Dan Craig's work is characterised by bold, confident brushwork and unconventional use of colour. He graduated with a BA (hons) in Fine Art from the Surrey Institute of Art and Design in 2000. In 2004 he was shortlisted from 800 London artists to appear on Channel 5's 'The Big Art Challenge', where he sparred with the Evening Standard's art critic Brian Sewell. Dan is in regular demand for commissions and has exhibited in a number of group shows including 'Incongruent counterparts' (2007), 'Run to the Hills' (2008) and 'Disturb' (2010).

The Artful Gallery - Haslemere

Once again, around 100 pieces of art from a carefully selected list of artists will be on show in the 6 acres of gardens, woodland walk and studio at David Paynter's HUF house in Haslemere. Paintings, drawings, sculptures, glass, ceramics. There will be something for everyone to enjoy and to afford!

David Paynter - Sculptor/Poet - Haslemere

A sculptor, chiefly in stone and clay, casting work in bronze and bronze resin. Also enjoying life drawing and painting. After a successful business career building his own design and marketing consultancy, David retired early to spend time in a purely creative role. A course in Dartington rekindled his early passion for art. He is inspired by nature in all her moods, and with each major work he writes a poem. David is a member of Guildford Arts and past Deputy Chair of Surrey Sculpture Society. His work is found in collections in the UK and Europe.
