All of Ali Tomlin's work is made in porcelain and individually wheel thrown. Most pieces are glazed only on the inside and sanded on other surfaces to achieve a soft, tactile finish. Ali likes to leave some of the porcelain white, giving her a clean canvas to play with marks, lines and texture. Even though they appear fragile, everything can be used. Ali Tomlin is based locally to Figura, just outside Farnham, Surrey.

Nobilis comes from the Latin word Nobile, meaning 'distinguished' or “in good taste”. In 1928, Adolphe Halard, founder of the company, opened a boutique under this name at 29 rue Bonaparte in Paris, between the church of Saint-Germain-des-Prés and the fine arts school, Ecole des Beaux Arts. By surrounding himself with renowned painters such as Suzanna Fontan, he began designing collections of wallpapers and fabrics which express the emotion of contemporary artists: the Nobilis spirit was born. The Nobilis collection now extends to rugs, sofas, furniture, and decoration accessories.

Rowena Gilbert loves objects that sit between art and design - artistic, well designed and functional - things that can be admired purely for their form and surface that sit alone as art objects, but can also be touched and used because of their function. Rowena believes that something a function invites you to have a whole different relationship to the object, a tactile relationship as well as a visual. Much like Figura, she also believes that everyday objects should be beautiful. This is why she designs and create contemporary ceramics that are stylish, functional and artistic.
